Gevey Ultra 5.1 and R-SIM IV Cannot Unlock iPhone 4 Baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01

This is the news that nobody wants to hear after a week of exciting new “unlock” breakthroughs.

About a week ago Chinese hacker loktar_sun’s unlock method was released and it took the world by storm because it was easy to do, the method is software-based, it can unlock any iOS or baseband particularly 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 and best of all it’s free.

The following day Applenberry and R-SIM developers announced their SIM interposers are also capable of unlocking any baseband. Applenberry introduced Gevey Ultra 5.1 and put a price tag of $49 while R-SIM IV was sold for $25.

While everyone was busy unlocking their iPhones, our gut feeling was telling us that Applenberry is actually using loktar_sun’s free method and selling it! How can they come up with an unlock after being silent for 6 months and then suddenly they have a solution after loktar_sun announced his method?

Another thing that got me suspicious was how it supposed to operate.

Insert your GEVEY™ Ultra 5.1 with your chosen SIM card to activate your iPhone 4 through iTunes. This may require several re-launches of iTunes. More instructions forthcoming.

Wait a minute, doesn’t that sound like loktar_sun’s SAM unlock method?

How about R-SIM IV? Well it was pretty obvious when they published the instructions on their website. I actually took the time to re-write them (pirated by unlockboot.com) and there was loktar_sun’s method written all over the place.

We all know by now that Apple had patched all their activation servers around the world. That means any unlock method that relies on ICCID exploit will no longer work, including Gevey Ultra 5.1 and R-SIM IV.

Applenberry has made an official apology to their customers for recalling Gevey Ultra 5.1.

Those who have successfully unlocked their iPhones, congratulations. Meanwhile, don’t forget to backup your activation ticket. Those who missed the boat, keep on hoping that another genius will find a new exploit. If yours is locked to AT&T, you can contact AT&T to see if your device is eligible.

SAM Unlock Method May No Longer Work as Apple Starts Fixing Activation Servers

Trying to unlock your iPhone with the SAM unlock method? If it’s not working for you, it may be that Apple had patched all their activation servers.

This is not very surprising at all because that’s how Apple works. As long as there’s a new unlocking method, Apple will find a way to stop it. While this is usually done through software and baseband update, Apple might also do drastic measures such as replacing the hardware. A good example would be replacing the chip on the new iPhone 3GS so that it won’t take baseband 6.15.00.
MuscleNerd (as usual) would tweet anything that has something to do with unlocking iPhones:

“Looks like Apple’s currently fixing their activation servers. But the good news is that previous tickets gotten via SAM trick still work.“

If you’ve successfully unlocked your iPhone and backup your activation ticket, you will not be affected. If you’re only trying to do this or with a different SIM card, you may get the following error in SAM:

Activation Info rejected. You must select original carrier SIMID of your phone

This is relatively easy for Apple because they only have to do majority of the work on their servers instead of rolling out a new iOS update.

A lot of the details of the story grew organically out of gameplay. The team would have a cool idea for an enemy or a puzzle or an encounter and I’d weave the rest of the narrative around it. For example, the civilization of the bogeys (an early-game enemy) is crude and brutal because that’s how they behave when they attack. And a lot of the mythology of the Faerie Forest had its roots in the boss battle you fight there. We wanted the player to feel like there was a tight link between the story and the gameplay. Everything you do and see in Sorcery ties into the world or narrative in some larger way.

As development progressed, the story became more streamlined. Finn’s backstory – where he came from, how he became an apprentice – was pared down because it was getting in the way of kicking off the action. There was a whole sub-plot about a guild of fame-hungry rival sorcerers that just got dropped. How to Use R-SIM IV to Unlock iPhone 4 Baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01

R-SIM IV for unlocking iPhone 4 baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 is finally released amidst the time when Chinese hacker loktar_sun released his free SAM unlock method.

I have to admit that I haven’t personally tested this product, but based on the instructions on their website, R-SIM IV is another immature product which bound to fail, unless if they improve it soon.
I noticed that it seems to be using the same ICCID and iTunes activation exploits on the method discovered by loktar_sun. The instructions below will let you understand why I made this statement. My analogy would be:

“Imagine you need to go across a small and shallow river (unlocking your iPhone): You can either jump into the river and swim (using loktar_sun’s SAM method) or buy a boat and row across the river (buying an R-SIM IV). Both methods will take you across but why use the hard way?”

Anyway, here’s the proof-read version of the instructions for jailbroken and non-jailbroken iPhone.
R-SIM IV Step-by-Step Instructions
Before you begin, you need to know to which network your iPhone is locked to. R-SIM 4 is set to AT&T USA by default. To change this, insert R-SIM IV and your current SIM card. Go to Settings > Phone > SIM Applications and select the carrier which your iPhone is locked to.

There are 26 preset carriers. You can manually select other carriers by using Edit IMSI function.

A. Jailbroken iPhone
1. Be sure your iPhone 4 is switched off. Insert the R-SIM IV together with your SIM card into the SIM slot. Switch on your iPhone.
2. Connect your iPhone to your computer. Use iTools or iFunBox and go to var/root/library/lockdown/ and delete all files inside this folder. Switch off your iPhone (this step deletes the activation information).
3. Switch on your iPhone and you are asked activate it. Launch iTunes and it will be activated.
4. Use iTools or iFunBox and go to var/root/library/lockdown/ and delete all files inside this folder. Switch off your iPhone.
5. Take out the R-SIM IV and insert your SIM card only.
6. Switch on your iPhone and you are asked to activate it again. Launch iTunes and it will give an error message. Disconnect iPhone and close iTunes.
7. Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone again. This time it will be activated and you will see the mobile signal. That’s it!
B. Non-Jailbroken iPhone
1. Backup your iPhone (you’ll see why this is necessary in the next step).
2. Insert the R-SIM IV together with your SIM card into the SIM slot. Go to Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Your iPhone will reboot and is asking you to activate.
3. Connect to iTunes to activate it. Once activated, switch off your iPhone.
4. Take out the R-SIM IV and insert your SIM card only. Switch on your iPhone and go to Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Your iPhone will reboot and is asking you to activate.
5. Switch on your iPhone and you are asked to activate it again. Launch iTunes and it will give an error message. Disconnect iPhone and close iTunes.
6. Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone again. This time it will be activated and you will see the mobile signal. That’s it!
If you notice the steps above, it’s essentially the SAM unlock method. “De-activate iPhone” in SAM has the same effect as deleting the contents inside var/root/library/lockdown/ or erasing your iPhone’s contents.
Will you be getting the R-SIM IV still? I’m not sure if you would…

Interview with China Hacker Loktar_Sun who Unlocked iPhones via SAM Method

The SAM iPhone unlock method is dubbed as one of the best unlocking methods since ultrasn0w for iPhone 4 baseband 1.59.00 because it doesn’t require any hardware e.g. Gevey SIM. I managed to get hold of Loktar_Sun for an exclusive online interview.

He first published his unlocking steps on China’s biggest iDevice forum weiphone.com on April 21st, 2012 (screenshot above). After a few hours, the steps were proven to be working and it was spreading worldwide like wildfire. By the next day, tech blogs all around the world began blogging about this method and everyone was delighted that it worked like a charm.
There was no new tool developed for this unlocked, instead he used Sam Bingner‘s SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module) Preferences, manipulated it using iTunes – and voila! an unlock for all baseband on any iOS version!
Many questioned why seasoned hackers such as @MuscleNerd did not think of this method before? The conspiracy theory is that he knew about this method but didn’t reveal it to the public for whatever reason?
Without further ado, here are the top questions we picked and presented to Loktar_Sun:
Q: How much time did you spend developing this method?
Previously I used SAM to fix push typical notifications issues, that’s when I noticed that there seems to be a vulnerability with the iPhone’s ICCID.
Many people thought it was me who discovered this exploit, but actually it’s not. This exploit has been around for quite a while now but nobody would have thought Apple would (carelessly) come up with an exploit like this. When I found out the potential use of this exploit, I spent one whole afternoon to develop the steps.
If I didn’t come up with this method that day, I believe sooner or later someone would have done the same thing. There are other people who are smarter than me.
Q: Is this unlock permanent?

At this point it’s a permanent unlock tied to a SIM card. This method basically tricks Apple’s activation loophole and it’s not the same as Apple’s official factory unlock/activation. The iPhone is still considered locked in real sense.
Q: Can this method be added as a source in Cydia?   
I’ve never written or developed any iOS apps before, but I know China based hackers called ChinaSnow has started writing a program and will make it available very soon. Their Cydia source is ultra.chinasnow.net.
Q: Is it true that Applenberry is using the same method to unlock baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 with their newly released Gevey SIM?
This I’m not too sure. If they’re using the same exploit, once this is patched (by Apple), Gevey Ultra will be rendered useless. I’m hoping that they’ve already found a bug with the baseband so that if Apple patches the ICCID exploit, everyone can still continue using the SIM interposers.

Q: How do you feel to be an overnight internet stardom?
It’s very exciting,  I did not expect so many people, especially foreign friends who acknowledged my work. I hope that the I can make a better contribution to the iPhone unlock and jailbreak community in the future.

Play vedio or movie

1. For iphone users, click the iPod icon on the screen, then click the video you want to play from the list of total
2. For ipad or ipod touch users, click the vedio icon on the screen, click the video player
3. The video will appear immediately on TV

View photos

Click the picture icon,enter into the album,you must view photos as a slideshow. Then the photos will spread to the TV screen.

“Jailbreak”users’ installation tutorial

If “jailbreak” users have not installed TVOut2 Mirror TVOut or displayout,they still can Install “No jailbreak” to play. The purpose of “Jailbreak” is to install software ,such as Displayout or the Tvout2 Mirror TVOut,to support TV mirror output.After installing these software,it can be used easily. For the the iPad2 user of this software problems, The new version hasn’t solved this problem. Please install billing software: Displayout,.or waiting for software updating to see whether it has been solved.
You can turn off this software anytime.According to “No jailbreak”using method,some users may wonder no one will play as “No jailbreak” after installing the software.But actually,the play mode of “No jailbreak” can have a benefit for some games or some time when you view vedio.If you want to kown more about it,please look at other forums.Don’t want to make this content too complicated.

How to Unlock iPhone 4 Baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 for Free via ICCID Exploit

Who would have thought the day would come! The unlock for iPhone 4 baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 is finally here! Best of all it’s free!

This hack was discovered by Chinese hacker loktar_sun who published his method on popular Chinese forum weiphone.com.Vold Miracle In this country of 1.3 billion people, I’m pretty sure that this would happen sooner or later.
Pre-requisites:

• Jailbroken iPhone 4 running on iOS 5.0.1 (preferably)
• Non blacklisted iPhone
• You should know which carrier your iPhone is locked to. Use iTools or go to www.imei.info.
• Latest version of iTunes
• SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module) installed

Steps
1.  Launch Cydia and add this source repo.bingner.com, download and install SAM
2. Once installed, you will see SAMPrefs icon on your iPhone’s home screen.
3. Go to utilities and select “De-Activate iPhone”. This will change the ActivationState under “More Information” to “Unactivated”.
4. Now that SAM is enabled, go to “Method” and select “By Country and Carrier”; find your official carrier, it should also be noted that some carriers operate under more than one Carrier ID in that case you may need to select “SIM ID”; be sure to choose the right one. If you chose the wrong one, iTunes will not activate your iPhone.

5. Go back to More Information option and jot down the IMSI in “SAM Details”, then tap “Spoof Real SIM to SAM”
6. Go back to the main SAM screen and change “Method” to manual, enter the IMSI number which you wrote down or copied in previous step.
7. Check and match the ICCID in iTunes by connecting your iPhone to computer and let iTunes activate your device. Double tap on “Phone Number” field in your iPhone’s Summary (in iTunes). It should match with your SIM card’s ICCID. Otherwise, start from step 4.
8. Unplug your iPhone and close iTunes.
9. Disable SAM.
10. Connect your iPhone to iTunes again, you should get an error saying that your phone cannot be activated. This is normal. Just close iTunes and open it again.
Your iPhone should be unlocked now.
Fix Push notifications by tapping “clear push” utility in SAM followed by connecting to iTunes.
Save your unlock ticket for future use by saving everything located in:

/var/root/Library/Lockdown/

Now, this technique is very similar to the one used to unlock iPhone 4S. Guess what? Applenberry is using the same exploit and has started selling their unlock on their website.
There’s a chance that this would work on older basebands as well; including 3GS’ baseband 5.14.02 to 5.16.05! So do try!
Since this does not involve emergency numbers or IMSI spoofing it will not have any of the issues associated with SIM interposers. Tested working on iOS 5.0.1 but should work with tethered 5.1 too.
